Between Truth and False

To be honest, I was shocked, surprised and angered when I first learned that Ayaan Hirsi Ali (even though at that time didn't know who the hell she was) was going to give an on campus speech criticizing the Islamic faith and it's Prophet pbuh. To me, it was totally nonsense, the idea of coming over here and criticizing someone's else faith and all that. Who does she think she is? And I was overly shocked with the idea that Vandy actually allowed this. Mentang2 kutuk Islam, so takpe.. Cube kalau panggil orang kutuk Christian.. Mengamuk satu US agaknye.. huhu..

For all that I recall, never has MSA invited some Muslim scholar to condemn other religions. That's the way Islam is. They respect other religions, no matter what differences they share.

The MSA has been emailing us encouraging Muslims to attend the speech to try to prevent non muslims attending the speech getting biased info about our religion. And Alhamdulillah, I had the chance to attend the speech today. I was really determined to see what this apostasy had to say about Islam.

The title of the speech was Middle East Meets West. From what I heard over the course of the 30 minutes of her speech was more or less just pure criticizing Islam based on her very narrowly minded mind. She completely diverged from the topic but few seemed to care, as most Americans were cheering her all the way. Middle East actually consist of Arabs, Jews, Persians, and Africans, and Islam, is not only for those in that region.

Ayaan started her speech by giving a brief intro on Islam.. Or so I thought. Her version of Islam was very unfamiliar with what I learned. Among her deviated knowledge of Islam in her intro was when she mentioned about the existence of two angels on our shoulders which would tell us to do good and bad each. Since when? That's not what Raqib and Atid (if she was referring to them) does.

I'll be commenting on the other issues Ayaan brought in a later post.

Until then, wassalam..
